How To Become A Family Child Care Provider

1. Call the Department of Early Education & Care at (978) 740-3060 to request an application for licensed family child care.  The Department of Early Education & Care is a state agency that licenses individuals to provide child care in their homes.  Please leave a message with your name and mailing address and an application will be sent to you.

 2. The Department of Early Education & Care requires that you attend a three-hour orientation class provided by Child Care Circuit and the Department of Early Education & Care.  During the training you will receive information about how to obtain your license and other related issues. Upon completion of the class you will receive a certificate of attendance.  Please register through Child Care Circuit via mail or on our web site (www.childcareciruit.org).  The cost of the class is $15.00.

 3.  Register for a First Aid and Infant/Child CPR class.  Call your local hospital or the Red Cross for information or call Child Care Circuit for a list of agencies that provide the class.  Cost of the class varies.

 4.  Mail your completed application with all required documentation, including your certificate of attendance from the orientation class and copies of your First Aid and CPR cards, to the Department of Early Education & Care, 35 Congress Street, Salem, MA   01970.  Be sure to include a check or money order for $100.00 made out to The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

 5.  The licensor from the Department of Early Education & Care will call you to schedule a visit to your home.
