Important Information from the

Department of Early Education & Care

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death for infants 1 month to 12 months old, and one in five SIDS deaths occurs while an infant is in the care of someone other than a parent. While the causes of SIDS are not fully known, much is known about the best methods for reducing the risks associated with SIDS deaths.

EEC is embarking on a multi faceted new campaign, Keeping Sleep Time Safe, to make sure all providers and parents know the importance of safe sleeping practices for infants.  Key components of the Campaign include development and distribution of information, direct outreach to parents and providers, new policies on safe sleep, potential regulation changes, and statewide trainings on safe sleep.

As a first step in this campaign, EEC has developed new one-page fact sheets on Keeping Sleep Time Safe.  These fact sheets are available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. (see below)
